Cultural Heritage & Photography Safari – departs from The Royal Castle Hotel 11 The Quay, TQ6 9PS.

Cultural Heritage & Photography Safari

The South Hams is a stunning area of natural beauty that is full of picturesque villages, hamlets and wooded shore lined estuaries. We meander around the winding small country lanes taking in the cultural heritage and learning the stories that made Devon once tick. We take our time around the nature reserves, estuaries and spectacular viewpoints.

The Cultural Heritage & Photography Safari departs from Dartmouth and takes in the South Hams by Boat and minibus. We take you to the locations you may and many that you may not find on your own. On the tour, you will encounter wildlife that is at home here and the migrating bird populations that are travelling through. Our tours change with the seasons as does the flora and fauna. However, we know where the Seal Pups sunbathe and go off-the-beaten-track in the hopes of seeing Otter and the Cirl Bunting. We will get you closer to nature and introduce you to the history, the legends, myths and stories that make the South Hams so interesting, from the first settlers after the ice age to the artisan craftsmen that are here today.

On the Cultural Heritage and Photography Safari, you can discover the delicious local food and drink or you can bring your own food with you.

Within the Safari we take in the Avon and the Dart estuaries and conclude the day with a River Dart Cruise where you can get closer to nature and hopefully meet the local seal community.

Working best for 4-12 people at £89 per person. Alternatively, call for a bespoke day out for up to 6 people for £349 or up to 12 for £599

Blackpool Sands

A simply stunning and almost hidden beach and one of the most breathtaking in South Devon. It could be mistaken for the Mediterranean for the tropical plants that grow here. We stop briefly for the incredible story of The Battle of Blackpool Sands.

Slapton Nature Reserve

Known for its importance in the D- Day landings, however previously in 1831 it was a favourite with sporting and hunting enthusiasts and nearly became one of Britain's Safari Resorts. Slapton Lee formed over 3000 years ago.

The Stokeley Farm Shop

We stop here for your opportunity to collect local food made from artisan craftsmen and taste the local Ale from the South Hams Brewery. It's also a great opportunity to purchase some local products which we can keep fresh in the Gourmet Cool Box.

The Cornworthy Priory

A 13th Century Nunery that is all but ruined and left in a corner of the landscape, once the largest building in the parish. Cornworthy Priory was always very small. Initially, there were thirteen Augustinian nuns, by 1377 there were nine and at the time of its dissolution, there were only seven. The Priory was dissolved in 1536 by Henry VIII.

Sharpham Estate and Vineyard

This thousand year old farm consists of five hundred acres owned by the Sharpham Trust. The house, designed in 1770 by Sir Robert Taylor, overlooks the beautiful rolling hills surrounding the lower meandering Dart. The setting of the vineyard is spectacular and made even more special by the Sharpham Sparkling Reserve. An elegant dry traditionally made wine with a rich depth of fruit.

River Dart Estuary and River Cruise

We conclude our adventure with a private charter on the Lower River Dart, taking in the hamlets and villages as we pass by. From the walk down to the quay to the views from the river itself are memories you will keep forever. We compliment the cruise with blankets for comfort and liquid refreshments in the late afternoon sun, alongside local produce from the luxury Gourmet Safari hamper.

We look forward to meeting you and your participation in our guided tours.
